A Yogi in Japan - Travel Diary || Morzine Source Magazine

As a Yoga teacher I’ve spent the last five years travelling around the world, from one mountain town to the next, hunting out powder and new adventures. If you’d asked me how I’d most like to combine my passion for teaching yoga with my love of snowboarding, I couldn’t have dreamt this up. Yet there I was in January 2020, waiting for the first of three flights taking me to Japan, and pinching myself to check I wasn’t dreaming.

A few months earlier I’d received a phone call from Winter Olympic medalist Jenny Jones, asking if I’d like to be the team Yoga teacher on one of her trips. Jenny’s multi-day workshops take place in top resorts around the world, the one she’d asked me to join would combine classic deep powder snowboarding with “Apres-Yoga”, a good dose of sake and of course the legendary onsens (Japanese hot springs, dreamy!).

How our Yoga retreat at the Farmhouse in Morzine, unfolded || Guest Blog

It was early August, and the mountains were calling. The Farmhouse was ready, the gardens mown, and the team and I eager to meet the incoming Yogis. With arrivals from Mexico, Israel, Spain and France, it really was an international gathering! And as soon as we stepped onto our mats on that first afternoon, there was magic in the air. After so long practising online, from our own corners of the World, we were finally together in Morzine.

Day 1: Hello there!

Friday afternoon, our opening day! As people began to arrive there was electricity in the air. First meetings, old friends, & seeing people in person who I’ve only ever met during my online yoga classes!…

Yoga for Snowboarders | Whitelines Magazine | Emily Ruth Yoga

Why your snowboarding will benefit from Yoga || Whitelines

Emily Ruth takes us through her yoga practices tailored for snowboarders.

For years, many snowboarders have been keen practitioners of yoga. Snowboarding is a very dynamic sport and can be quite strenuous on your body (even if, at times, we choose to not admit it and ride through the pain), so having a way to help offset this is something we’d all probably like a little more of in our lives

Yoga helps us to recover from days spent up the hill. Different poses also help us gain strength and balance, which both improve our riding. But it isn’t just about the physical aspects, yoga is also a great way to work on the mental side by helping us to remain calm and focused…

Snowboard Touring Morzine Yoga | Emily Ruth Yoga

#WINTERREADY - How Yoga can help your winter adventures || Treeline Chalets Guest Blog

It’s no wonder that touring has become so popular the last few years, what an incredible way to experience the mountains, for locals and visitors alike. With guiding available from a number of the incredible snow schools in Morzine, the possibility of getting away from the crowds, and into the backcountry safely, is now a reality.

My personal journey into touring has been a gradual one, borrowing snowshoes, and hiking with my board on my back for the first time 5 years ago. Completing my Avalanche Safety Training Level 1 course in Canada, the land of powder, 3 years ago. To owning a full split board set up in Spring 2020… before swiftly getting locked down into confinement!

Here are 3 ways Yoga can help your Winter adventures…

Yoga: More than just stretching

|| Morzine Source Magazine

All too often people I’ve heard people, mainly men (sorry guys), refer to yoga as, ‘just fancy stretching, right?’ And as yoga has seen a boom in popularity over the past five years, it’s easy to see why you might think that.

As anyone who’s ever been to a yoga class will tell you, it’s actually much more than that (and FYI yoga was actually invented by men). It’s easy to think that because people leave yoga classes looking like they’ve had a genuinely nice time instead of a limping, groaning mess, that it’s somehow not real exercise. But the yoga mat is a great space, for stretching yes, but also strengthening, balancing, falling on your face, sweating obscenely…

Yoga practice in Morzine’s mountains

|| Emerald Stay

Mountains and yoga, Emily’s dream life…

As you reach Morzine, what always impresses is not only the views of its beautiful snow capped mountains, but the town’s post card like scenery. With Switzerland’s Léman lake and vineyards just round the corner, it feels like time has stopped in this typical Savoyard village.

This is probably why two years ago, Emily decided to put down her luggage and settle in Morzine. A surprising choice for the globetrotting young Yoga teacher. But even she had to admit that this small treasure in the valley of the Alps offers an intense life for those who love the mountains.

Morzine Yoga with Emily
|| Planks Clothing

Tis the season to be strong, stoked and ready to shred. This winter at Planks, we have teamed up with our good friend and fellow mountain lover Emily Ruth Williams, who invites us to join her on the yoga mat every Monday morning at 7:30am.

As active people, looking after our bodies is crucial to our daily enjoyment and ability to explore our surroundings.
